Only Planet – a flight free adventure – Ed Gillespie

£14.99

A flight-free adventure around the world by Ed Gillespie

In an inspirational tale of global adventure, Ed Gillespie takes anything but a plane to circumnavigate the world.

From cargo ships to camels, hitch-hiking to hovercrafts, Ed proves that getting there really is half the fun. Follow his epic tale, across shamanic lakes, Mongolian deserts and jungle volcanoes. Meet grizzled sea-dogs and drunken smugglers, billions of butterflies and peckish pythons.

This modern world fable is about the exhilaration of taking it slow, and about rediscovering hope for humanity and for the planet we all share.

Ed’s journey brings to vivid life the joys, and challenges, of slow, low carbon, overland travel. En route Ed realises that staying grounded in an age of climate change may lead us to rediscover the pleasures of what real travel is all about.

Through the journey and adventure he delves into the philosophy of sustainable travel, reconnecting with community and our one and only lonely planet.

About the Author

Born in Norfolk and trained as a marine biologist Ed concluded he was going to spend the rest of his life saying ‘if you don’t stop catching all the fish, there won’t be any fish’.  So in 2001 he co-founded futerra.co.uk, a communications company with a mission to make sustainable development so desirable it becomes normal. Ed advises businesses, campaigners and governments on sustainability, and besides circumnavigating the world for this book has also worked all over it. Ed is a London Sustainable Development Commissioner and Chairman of specialist European rail booking business loco2.com. He lives in Brixton, South London.
